Press Conference Speech Delivered by Mr. Tony Agenmonmen, fnimn, President and Chairman of Council, NIMN, at Marketing House on 25 April 2019

Distinguished Gentlemen of the Press,

On behalf of the Council of our Institute and the Event Committee, I would like also to welcome you to our office for this conference to inform you about our plans for the Annual Marketing Conference, Dinner/Awards Night and Annual General Meeting of our Institute.

The Annual Marketing Conference will be held on 9 May 2019 at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt from 10.00 am. The theme of the conference is “Marketing Nigeria’s Non-Oil Sector For Sustainable Growth and Development”. The choice of the theme is informed by the Institute’s belief that concerted and deliberate efforts at marketing Nigeria’s Non-oil sector will diversify the economy and make it less vulnerable to fluctuations in crude oil prices. The theme strongly supports the government’s efforts at driving a diversified economy.

Mr. Segun Adeniyi, Chairman Editorial Board, ThisDay Newspapers will be the keynote speaker, focusing on the theme. The keynote speech will be followed by a moderated panel discussion.

The panel will be composed as follows: Professor John Otaigbe (Department of Chemistry, University of Port Harcourt), Mr. Femi Awoyemi (Chief Executive, Proshare Nigeria Limited), Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun Principal Consultant/CEO Necci Limited), Professor Gazie Okpara (Director Academic Planning, Abia State University, Uturu) and Mr. Olusegun Awolowo (Director General, Nigeria Export Promotion Council). Mr. Lampe Omoyele (Managing Director, NITRO121) will moderate the panel.

The conference will be a congregation of marketing professionals from different sectors of the Nigerian economy, other professionals, the academia, government functionaries and students.  The Conference is also open to the general public.

As usual, the summary of actionable Conference conclusions will be presented to the government as our input to policy making and execution.

In the evening from 7.00 pm at the same venue, we shall have our Annual Dinner and awards Night. New Fellows as well as Honorary Fellows will be honoured and inducted. Thereafter, we shall party like marketing people do.

Next day, 10 May, we shall have the Annual General Meeting where we shall present accounts of our stewardship for the year ended 31 December 2018. As President, I will also use the opportunity to present my stewardship for the past two years that I have had the privilege of leading my colleagues in Council to reshape the future of our Institute.

Elections will also be held to fill the position of the President and Chairman of Council.

Gentlemen of the Press, in the past two years we have worked very hard to re-position our Institute.  I am very proud of the progress that we have made and you can be sure that our members are also very proud of the Institute.  But let me say very clearly that what has been achieved can be called the laying of a solid foundation that we need to consolidate to get to the destination of our dreams.  One thing is sure and certain, the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria is on the rise and things can only get better.

It is a journey we have started.  We shall continue to count on you gentlemen of the press to support us in this journey. We welcome all ideas and genuine criticisms that are designed to move the Institute forward.

I thank you for listening.

Tony Agenmonmen, fnimn
President/Chairman of Council
